Bobbie Eisenstock, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), is a media educator and advocate whose teaching and research advances media literacy as an essential life skill in our digital-driven world. Her recent book, News Literacy Now: How to “Read” the News, was inspired by her students to help them think like a journalist and search like a fact-checker to navigate the “fake news” crisis of credibility.
As part of her community outreach, she develops media literacy resources and facilitates workshops for K-12 schools, parent groups, community leaders, healthcare providers, and the media industry. Her contributions to the field have been recognized by NAMLE’s Elizabeth Thoman Service Award, the National Association for Eating Disorders Award for Excellence in Activism and Advocacy, CSUN’s Visionary Award for Community-based Learning and the Exceptional Service to Students Award. Dr. Eisenstock has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School in Los Angeles, UCLA, and Antioch University in its program for prison inmates at California Institution for Women.
