
Tony Streit is a Managing Project Director at Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), an international non-profit organization that designs, implements, and evaluates programs to improve education, health, and economic opportunity worldwide. Streit is a nationally recognized expert in media education, youth development, out-of-school time, and informal STEM learning. Streit’s projects weave technical assistance, professional development, instructional design, and technology integration with a focus on student-centered learning.
Streit serves as the Principal Investigator for the National Center on Afterschool and Summer Enrichment (NCASE), a technical assistance effort of the US Administration for Children and Families to increase access to high-quality out-of-school time learning for school-age children. Streit co-led Supporting Readiness through Vital Civic Empowerment (SRVCE), a civics education curriculum project funded by the US Department of Defense that integrates media literacy and the exploration of public sector careers. Streit is co-authored the landscape study for the Wallace Foundation, Supporting Quality in Summer Learning: How Districts Plan, Develop and Implement Programs. For a decade, he led an EDC team in the design and management of Adobe Systems’ signature philanthropic effort Adobe Youth Voices.
Before joining EDC, Streit was Co-Founder and Co-Director of Street-Level Youth Media, a celebrated Chicago organization recognized for its innovative approach to youth development and digital learning. Streit currently serves as a board member and Past President of the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE).
Streit received a BA in communications and economics from University of Notre Dame and studied documentary filmmaking at Columbia College Chicago.
