Student @ University of Rhode Island, Member @ NAMLE’S Youth Advisory Council

What do you do?
Through the NAMLE Youth Advisory Council, I work in the content creation pod, collaborating with amazing teenagers to create informative media literacy videos for NAMLE’s accounts.

I am currently filming the intro for the NAMLE media literacy video campaign! I am also honored and grateful to have won a grant through the 2026 Look.Up Live and #HalfTheStory Innovation Challenge. Through this opportunity, I am producing educational videos and resources for teens who have experienced cyberbullying on how to navigate social media.
Why is media literacy important to you?
The ability to interpret and understand information is a vital skill, especially in today’s digital age. Discerning misinformation and bias is a key component that many others consider, and I believe it is important as well. However, I also am passionate about the digital wellbeing of youth – finding that balance between being informed and doomscrolling.
What are you most excited about in the media literacy field?
While it is upsetting that not as many people have access to resources for becoming media literate, I think it is exciting to be part of an organization, like NAMLE, helping change this narrative through storytelling.
Why did you become a NAMLE member, what benefits do you see to membership, and how will it support your work?
Many of the wonderful opportunities I’ve been blessed to have over the past few months have come through the #HalfTheStory Digital Civics Academy Alumni LinkedIn Opportunities Board. When I saw NAMLE was accepting applications for their Youth Advisory Council, I immediately started drafting my responses. Having competed and earned international finalist status in DECA’s Community Awareness Project category for a media literacy and digital safety campaign, extending this passion through NAMLE felt natural.
I also became a NAMLE member because I want to be part of a national community advancing media literacy through intention and research. Membership gives me access to resources, conversations, and leaders who strengthen the youth-centered digital wellbeing work I already do. It supports my work by keeping me informed, connected, and able to contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape young people are navigating every day.
