What do you do?
As a social media intern at NAMLE, I work with team members to produce eye-catching and educational content that is posted to our various social platforms. By developing highly active channels of communication on social media, I am able to reach endless amounts of people to introduce them to media literacy.
What is your latest work or project in media literacy?
While working as an intern this Spring, I am also a student at UMD. As a communication major, the concept of media literacy often comes up in the classroom. I am always excited to be able to learn from others, as well as sharing the knowledge I have developed in my time with NAMLE.
Why is media literacy important to you?
In the digital age that we currently live in, it is increasingly important to understand what information is reliable, and what is not. Just as the internet can offer a wealth of knowledge, it also produces misleading content, and it is vital to discern the difference between the two.
What are you most excited about in the media literacy field?
I thoroughly believe that increased media literacy education is the only way to build a safer online landscape. I am excited to be a part of creating that sense of community online, as well as learning a thing or two, myself!
Why did you become a NAMLE member, what benefits do you see to membership, and how will it support your work?
In this position, I am preparing for other career opportunities in the future, as well as building connections that may benefit me in years to come. Along with that, I am becoming a more cautious online consumer.
